Transfers to and from Dallas Airport

Dallas Fort Worth Airport is located on the northwestern side of Dallas, and also nearby the city of Fort Worth. The airport was purposely located almost exactly equidistant from the two cities of Dallas and Fort Worth. It is also nearby another very popular airport in Dallas, known as the Dallas Love Field Airport. This airport in the United States of America is the largest in Texas, in terms of physical size and passenger traffic, and handles over 69 million passengers per year. It is currently ranked as the eighth busiest airport in the world, and serves as a hub for American Airlines and American Eagle. The airport offers a variety of facilities, including adequate parking areas; therefore passengers and visitors can easily drive their own car to the airport. Directions to the airport are quite straight forward, as there are a number of prominent roads in the surrounding area.

Dallas-Fort Worth Airport is situated particularly nearby Grapevine, Euless, Bedford and South Lake, as well as the popular area of Irving. Other areas in the vicinity of the airport include Arlington, Grand Prairie, North Richland Hills, Richardson, Carrollton and Garland. The US-121 is also known as the Airport Freeway and has direct connections to the airport from the north and west. The Airport Freeway is also listed as the US-183 from southern districts. Other roadways on the way to the airport from the south are the Stemmons Freeway and Nichols Way, as well as the US-360, or Angus G. Wynne Junior Freeway. The major Interstates leading to Dallas Airport include the I-35E and the I-30, or Tom Landry Freeway. Additional roads of importance nearby the airport include the Walton Walker Boulevard and the Lyndon B Johnson Freeway, or I-635.

Directions from Dallas

Travelling to the airport from Dallas will take about twenty-five minutes to half an hour in usual traffic, and up to an hour in peak traffic hours, depending on which out of three routes are followed. The first route involves the I-35E in a northerly direction towards the US-67. Drivers will then turn left onto the TX-183, and take the DFW Airport exit. When merging with the TX-97, take the exit on the left, keep right and continue to the terminal parking areas. Another route from Dallas is by using the TX-114 until reaching the Airport Freeway, or TX-121. Start this route on the I-35 and TX-183 as mentioned above. From the TX-121 motorists will take the DFW Airport exit and merge with the International Parkway, which is one of the main roads of the airport complex.

The third route from Dallas is slightly longer during normal traffic hours, but is not as busy during peak hours. From the I-35 take exit 440C on the left and merge with the I-635. Head towards the TX-121 by turning off at exit 36A, and continue to the International Parkway.

Directions from Fort Worth

Motorists from Fort Worth will need to allow approximately thirty to forty minutes for travelling time during quieter traffic periods, and up to an hour in peak traffic hours. The quickest route to the airport follows the South Freeway towards Elmwood Ave. Make a U-turn at E Morningside Drive and head north on the I-35. Take exit 52B onto the Airport Freeway, or TX-121, and head towards DFW Airport. Drivers will then follow the TX-183 to the airport exit. Other roads that can be followed are the TX-114, or the TX-121 can be bypassed by using the Interstate-30 and TX-360.

Passengers or visitors driving to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport will find plenty of parking options, and that the airport consists of five terminal buildings, named Terminal A, B, C, D and E. The majority of the terminals are used by American Airlines and American Eagle. They are all semi-circular in shape, except for Terminal D. Connections between the terminals on the secure side of the airport are made by the Skylink, which is the largest high speed airport train in the world, while green and blue shuttle bus vans provide transport on the non-secure side. There are also walkways between the terminals, but the Skylink only connects Terminal E. It also has an underground walkway that leads to its satellite terminal.

Facilities at the airport include three on-site hotels ideal for passengers who need to stay overnight for flight connections, or who would rather spend the night nearer the hotel for their flight in the morning. There are numerous VIP lounges, banking and currency exchange facilities; Internet connections and children’s play areas, which include the Pepsi Junior Flyer’s Club. Samsung features a mobile travel lounge at the airport, and there are many personal facilities available, such as a barbershop, massage therapist, manicure services and an interfaith chaplaincy. Many interesting shops are located on the land and airside of the airport, as well as a number of high quality restaurants and snack bars.

Alternative transport options include by bus, train or taxi in addition to car rental. DART is the company which operates the bus and train services, with two bus routes from various locations, and railway services to the CentrePort/DFW Airport Railway Station. Passengers will use a free airport shuttle bus to travel from the train station to the terminals, and from the North or South Remote parking lots used by the bus services. Various taxi services will take you to your terminal of departure from any location in the nearby cities.
